Access to identification documents that align with one's gender identity is an important milestone in affirming one's self for many Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse individuals.
It can significantly improve access to safety, dignity, and the ability to navigate daily life, by reducing the risk of discrimination, harassment, and violence while lowering barriers to accessing essential services like employment, housing, and healthcare.
However, even with assistance in filing the correct documentation like the kind we provide in our Trans ID clinics, the cost associated with the filings can easily exceed $500 per person making it inaccessible for many in our community.
