How to host an event in support of Skipping Stone.

1. Let us know about your event
We are always thrilled to hear about amazing events and the support we get from our community. Get in touch with us and let us know you are doing an event.

Our staff can work with you to help promote it, assist with ensuring an inclusive environment and even help with the planning required.

Please note, we require all third-party events raising funds for and/or using Skipping Stone’s brand to conform with our policies and practices and as such require the submission of an ‘Event Proposal’.
This ensures we can work together while mutually upholding our shared values.

2. Set the date and venue
Schedule your event for a day that gives you enough time to plan and promote it. Your venue should be accessible and whenever possible include gender-neutral washrooms (gendered washrooms can be easily converted with temporary signage).

3. Set your fundraising goal
We would love to get a sense of what your goal might be for your event. That way we can work together to help make it happen!

4. Do you need a license?
Please ensure that you have all necessary licenses for the venue, alcohol sales, raffles, etc. Here are some helpful links:

To assist you with promotion and to add credibility, we can provide our logo for your event materials.
To ensure the Skipping Stone’s identity is represented correctly, we ask that any promotional materials bearing our name or logo be approved in advance by our team.

7. Let us know how we can help
We are so grateful for all the support we receive through fundraising events. We would love to get to meet you and thank you in person and see how we can help so please reach out by filling out our events form and let’s set up a time to meet.

Also, know how we can directly support your event, be it social media promotion, onsite info booth, speakers, training/education in advance of the event or help with planning.

8. After the event

Now it is time to submit the funds you have raised to Skipping Stone.
Please submit funds within 30 days of the event either through an online donation system or by check to:

Skipping Stone Foundation
#1250 - 407 2 St SW
Calgary, Alberta • T2P 2Y3

Event organizers should also submit their list of donors so tax receipts can be issued where appropriate.

Receipting Policy

Do you issue tax receipts?
Yes. Skipping Stone is a registered charity and as such, we can issue tax receipts for eligible donations from events that have submitted an event proposal and received approval in advance.

What is eligible for a tax receipt?
In general, if an individual or organization is receiving any benefit for their donation or contribution, then a tax receipt is not usually issued. Skipping Stone will determine the value of the charitable tax receipt based on the guidelines established by the Canada Revenue Agency.

In general:

• Sponsorships are not eligible for a tax receipt.
Sponsorship is when a business donates to a charity and, in return, receives advertising or promotion of its brand, products or services.

• Donation of Services is not eligible for a tax receipt.
The donation of time, skill and effort are services that do not qualify as gifts for donation receipt purposes.

• Gifts-In-Kind are eligible for a tax receipt.
A donation of non-cash property such as equipment, food, event supplies etc. is considered a gift-in-kind.

It is the charity’s obligation to ascertain the Fair Market Value of the gift-in-kind for which the amount of the tax receipt will be issued.
